The Instituto de Investigaciones en Ecosistemas y Sustentabilidad (Institute for Ecosystems and Sustainability Research) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (National Autonomous University of Mexico, IIES-UNAM) conducts scientific research, trains undergraduate and graduate students, and engages with society to address environmental challenges related to the management of social-ecological systems. This work is carried out through disciplinary, multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches. The institute’s goal is to contribute to developing  societies that provide sustainable l satisfiers equitably and justly, without compromising the natural processes that support life on the planet.
